Greg and Heather Shepard to Receive the Good Scout Award
Community Invited to Celebrate at The Lawn Social Benefiting Local Scouting Programs
BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL — The Scouting America, W. D. Boyce Council is proud to announce that Greg and Heather Shepard will be honored with the 2025 Good Scout Award at the annual Lawn Social on Thursday, September 11th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in Bloomington, IL.
Event co-chairs Pat Busch and Larry Nord invite the community to join us in celebrating the Shepards’ enduring commitment to youth, leadership, and service. The Lawn Social is more than an evening of recognition—it’s a chance to invest in the future of Scouting and the young people it serves across 14 counties in central Illinois.
Hosted by David and Gina Stark, 2024 Good Scout Award recipients, the event will feature light refreshments, meaningful stories, and the opportunity to connect with others who believe in building character and confidence in the next generation.

Proceeds from The Lawn Social directly support the mission of Scouting—preparing young people to make ethical and informed choices by instilling values of character, citizenship, and leadership.
The Good Scout Award has been presented to many of Bloomington-Normal’s most respected civic leaders, including:
- Dr. Tom Nielsen and Dr. Kathy Bohn (2023)
- Judge Paul Lawrence and Helen Ogar (2022)
- Dr. Jerry and Carole Ringer (2021)
- John and Barbara Meek (2019)
- Duane Farrington (2018)
- Al and Linda Bowman (2017)
- Colleen Kannaday (2016)
- Dr. Richard Wilson (2015)
Each honoree reflects the heart of Scouting: service, integrity, and a belief in the power of community to shape young lives.
The W. D. Boyce Council was named after the founder of the Boy Scouts of America, William Dickson Boyce—an American newspaper man, entrepreneur, magazine publisher, and explorer. The Council serves over 3,500 youth and their families in 14 counties in Central Illinois. For more information about the W. D. Boyce Council and its programs, please visit wdboyce.org.
